Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"* The student has learned phonics. * He read his Sherlock Holmes book for me as I got an overview of his skill level. * He is reading with his finger pointing at the words. * We reviewed the list of 5th grade vocabulary words. He knew 90% of them. * I taught him about his peripheral vision and how to use it while reading to see two words at a time; or even a whole phrase. * I assigned him 5 words from the vocab list - to find definitions and use them in a sentence."
"We began by discussing the book that the student is reading. He was able to give me a short characterization of the protagonist and another main character. Because he has a book report due in a few weeks, we began some work on that. He decided the character that he would create a "wanted" poster for and we went through the text to find some key details about the character. He then read 11 pages from the book aloud. I would stop him occasionally to ask questions of understanding."
"For today's lesson we worked on fluency and vocabulary. Completing reading drills and creating vocabulary cards were the strategies we used for the session. The student was given a new strategy to practice in-between sessions and we will see her progress at our next meeting."
