"We started and completed her physics project, which involved making a box that would block out very loud annoying sounds produced by an iPhone. We used a cooler with a box inside a box. The innermost box was filled with foam and closed, then set inside another box filled with foam. Then that box was placed in a cooler filled with beach towels and a sleeping bag. We were able to eliminate all of the sound from the iPhone. She then finished her worksheet that walked through each step of the process. She just needs to make the accompanying PowerPoint."
"Things went exceptionally well with the student tonight. We reviewed a quiz that she had taken and we were able to correct it together. Also, the issues that she had with the quiz were minor. Tonight she also worked on her homework assignment. Her homework was geared specifically toward vector addition. We focused on the tip to tail method of adding vectors. We also discussed scaling vectors. We used MapQuest to see how things are scaled and then determined the appropriate scale for graphing our given vectors. I showed the student how to use the Pythagorean Theorem to determine the length of a resultant vector."
"The student and I worked on problems dealing with Newton's laws and setting up sum of forces equations. We worked on breaking the problems down into objects in a system, and setting up sum of forces equations for each object. In these cases, the objects were at rest or moving with constant speed, so the sum of forces (in both the x and y directions) was zero. The student was quick to grasp all concepts."
