Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This session went very well. We worked on some strategies for finding definitions for vocabulary words she doesn't know by searching through her memory for any context she can provide. We talked about making up her own definitions and then looking at the answer choices to find a similar word. We worked through a lot of practice problems for the synonym section, then fewer questions from the reading comprehension section. For the last part of our session we worked through her vocabulary list and made a list of the words she had never heard of before and could not define. We spent some time defining the beginning of the list and finding synonyms to make it easier for her to study."
"This was my first session with the student. I had no previous information to go off of, so I created a compilation of various Upper Level Math exercises. (Luckily, at the start of our session, he admitted that math was a problem area and wanted to focus primarily on Upper Level mathematics.). Skills covered: point-slope formula, numeric sequences, probability and data analysis, area and circumference of a circle, volume of a cube, FOIL, parallel and perpendicular lines, arithmetic sequences, finding the reciprocal, simplifying expressions with fractions, and coordinate geometry. He is a very bright and creative individual. Our next session is scheduled for tomorrow evening, same time."
"I specifically went over the math and verbal homework that I had given the student. I noted that for math I had to teach her a decent amount of novel concepts but she caught on very quickly. For verbal, she did know a lot of the words already and knew how to solve the sentence completions. I can tell that verbal is her strength. I left her with a vocabulary list and screenshots of the math concepts that I had taught her. I am glad I had the opportunity to tutor her, thank you!"
