Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I began the session by reviewing direct and indirect object pronouns for an upcoming quiz/ examination she had on Friday. We made use of the free quizzes on a website, and reviewed the general concepts and guidelines for these grammatical structures. We then transferred the word bank created in the previous session to a poster board, so that she can easily access information and review during the course of the next week. There was a bit of conversational practice, which I'd like to focus on moving forward. Based on my observations, it seems that she knows more than she thinks, and building confidence in that knowledge will be key to helping her succeed for this portion of the exam."
"We went over a handout from last week, which was to make sentences from a vocabulary chart. The student did very well, and practiced using particles very well also. We made a few more sentences by using "wa" and "ga" particle. We also briefly went over a how to count numbers in Japanese ways. Homework for this week is a very similar handout - to make at least 8 sentences by using 8 particles in one sentence. Additional homework is to memorize the new vocabulary on the new handout."
"During this session the student and I did a review of all of the verb tenses she has learned so far. She said she has taken two parts of the final so far, and did well on both parts. She even got a 98% on the verbal section. She is going to take the practice final on her own as a review, and will let me know if she has any questions before her exam."
"The student and I worked through the review packet he was assigned to study for his test. We covered topics like direct and indirect object pronouns, reflexive verbs, sequence/ frequency vocabulary, and family member vocabulary. He is working on remembering more vocabulary words and conjugating verbs correctly. After working with him today, I have a better sense of what to focus on with him tomorrow. I will be making more study resources to leave with him tomorrow."
"The student was very focused. I'm extremely pleased with how quickly he's picking up French. He understands a lot of what I say, and particularly enjoys rhymes and games."
"In this session the student worked on review for the final exam. Yesterday in class her teacher gave her a study guide that detailed that the exam will be over commands with direct object pronouns, the future tense, and the subjunctive. Today she did a practice quiz for por/para and practice sheets for the future tense. She did well on the future tense and por/para. We also did an activity where she listed uses of the subjunctive and seemed to understand when its use is needed."
