Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Since the previous session, the student reported to me that he was able to complete most of the problems in a difficult set given by his Calculus teacher. This shows improvement in his ability to actively learn and apply concepts, which is a good sign. In today's session, we covered diffusion, effusion, gas density, and gas stoichiometry problems. He was able to work through the problems on his own, but a couple of times I needed to remind him that he prematurely declared he had solved the problem. The student has struggled in the past with checking his work to make sure he is answering the question. However, with a few pointers, the student was able to continue the problem on his own to the full answer. With regards to calculus, he and I covered converting rotations over a time to different units (such as miles per hours and rotations per minute). He had no issues with these problems. Leaving the session, I have confidence he will demonstrate his improvement."
"Today we went over concepts in preparation for Exam 1, which is next Tuesday. We reviewed acid base reactions, different definitions for acids and bases, acid and base strength, nucleophilicity, electrophilicity, resonance, hybridization, and other topics."
"Today, we went over Session 2 material of Module 1. There is a lot of material to cover for the student's test. There are 3 modules and we spent 4 hours going over just one of them. This module was mostly about enzyme and allosteric activity. We familiarized ourselves with inhibitors, Michaelis-Menten Equations, and the different types of enzyme catalysis. On Thursday, we'll start covering the second module."
"The session went well with this student. We went over thermochemistry concepts and problems, some gas concepts, partial pressure, mole fractions, and finding molecular formula from the given information. He has an insight for learning the concept and doing well in the class. I like his curiosity about chemistry problems and willingness to understand them all and do well in the class."
"We got back to our rhythm today, finishing our review of molality and molarity before moving into thermochemistry. Thermo seems very intuitive for this student, which is wonderful. Fortunately, we will have next week as well to fully solidify enthalpy and Hess' Law."
"We continued with balancing equations and stoichiometry problems. The student was able to finish areas that were challenging on the last chapter 4 homework assignment. There was definite progress in her comprehension and application of the concepts. Good work!"
