Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"For this session, the student and I reviewed her math homework and also studied for her test on Friday. She first completed her homework assignment, which involved multiplying whole numbers by fractions. To ensure she was understanding the concepts in the homework, I also gave her my own practice questions that were similar to the homework and had her do them. After completing the assignment, we did more similar practice questions. We then worked on studying for her test on the American revolution. She read through the summaries we wrote together several times and recited them back to me to prepare for her exam. Overall, she did a great job."
"First session in the new year. We spent today's session on both English and math. We did some vocabulary and language arts where we focused on reading passages and answering follow-up questions. We then switched to math and worked on some word problems that apply various operations."
"I helped the student with dividing fractions in math and visualizing the concept. Then we worked on a little bit of spelling, and ended with study skills. She should now understand SQ3R, diagrams, and should have her homework assignments written down before I come over. I also asked her to start bringing in her previous 2 weeks of work to our sessions. She figures most things out on her own, given enough time. I'll work with her on confidence to tackle hard things by encouraging her to try every problem by herself, showing me how she would do it, before stepping in."
"On Tuesday we worked on organizing his verb tenses into a chart that he can study with more ease for his finals. We are set to meet again next Tuesday to continue studying for the final that he has coming up."
"The student and I continued the review problems from the book. I had him do some problems that he hasn't seen in that type of format. By doing this, it allows him to use more critical thinking when approaching each problem. That way, he will not be surprised when a difficult question appears on the test. After completing all the practice problems from the book, I gave him a mini lesson on the next topic so that he continues to stay ahead of the curve in class."
"Today we reviewed several health assignments, including some larger quizzes and exams. The student seemed sure that he had done enough work to pass so I hope he does!"
