Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed homogenous vs. heterogenous mixtures, solutions, colloids, and suspensions. We also covered phase diagrams, gas laws, the activity series of elements, single replacement reactions, and molarity and molality. "
"We looked over the student's most recent test. His score did improve from his previous test. We went through the problems and discussed where the mistakes were and how to correct them. We worked on some practice problems on substitution and elimination. I showed him how to check his answers and gave him an assignment to go through all of his homework and check the answers before he turns it in."
"Reviewed errors made on the practice test the student took over the weekend and focused on four of the seven common fraction questions on the practice exam. Also briefly reviewed reading comprehension and suggested that the student: review simplifying, converting, and adding fractions (same and different denominator) over the coming week, as well as go over one-two reading comprehension passages to familiarize himself with the process and the types of questions that appear. Next week will continue with fractions/decimals, as well as sentence-completion strategies from the verbal portion."
"Re-checked on sight words. Reducing the amount of words missed. Will add 6 words to practice. Reviewed vocabulary for "World Holidays". Finished reading story with echo reading. He does an excellent job. Reviewed phonograms "all", "aw", "oo", "ew". Read words and sentences. Wrote sentences from dictation."
"During this session, I looked over the student's Policy Brief, the fifteen-page paper she had been working on. I was looking for content cohesion, grammatical errors, and syntax errors. She had written a great paper. While she was organizing material for a different paper, I marked her paper and then I aided her in making corrections. The paper turned out wonderfully and I think we both agree she should get a high grade on it."
"The family and I practiced vocabulary associated with the calendar, colors, clothing, and the face. We asked and answered questions using verbs like, where, and have. After that, we continued with our unit on Chinese New Year. We watched a great video explaining the tradition as a whole as well as the Dragon Dance. It was fun for everyone to watch. After the video, we made a paper dragon, which everyone enjoyed."
