Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session, the student did writing exercises comparing fiction to non-fiction writing. We did a Venn diagram comparing and contrasting the two. We then discussed the different ways a writer can begin a story. He chose a subject and successfully started it two different ways. We then looked at my examples to get an idea of variety in voice and setting. Finally we discussed his homework assignment. We discussed an outline and he wrote the first two paragraphs. He did very well and is a great student!"
"The student and I discussed her strengths and weaknesses on the SAT and her goals for the ACT. She took a practice English section and a science section, and we went over her incorrect answers on the English section. We established that we'll focus on reviewing usage/mechanics questions for future sessions."
"This afternoon we went through trigonometric functions. We covered their definitions and how to visualize those functions on the graph. We also learned how to us Pythagorean theorem to solve triangle problems. Then we talked about the concept of unit circle and how to evaluate trigonometric functions on the unit circle. He quickly grasped the concept and was able to apply the concepts to solve problems. He was pretty comfortable with solving trig problems at the end of the session."
"We started by working on her new vocab words for this week. Then I explained direct and indirect objects, as well as independent and dependent clauses. I made some worksheets on both of these topics, which she completed. We finished up by reviewing her vocab words again."
"We reviewed the remaining 3 of 6 topics that we were unable to get to during the last session. We covered geometric and recursive formulas for arithmetic sequences, solving exponential functions. We were unable to get to transformations, but covered the content in an earlier session. He was able to grasp the concepts, and the repetition of correctly solving practice problems ensured a quick recall."
"The student worked on his 3rd DB assignment on normalization. He needed help with breaking apart attributes into 1st, 2nd, and 3rd normal form. I suggested a few tutorials to help him visualize the process."
