"Today we worked on two homework assignments that the student had on critical points of graphs, along with the mean value theorem, and Rolle's theorem. We found minima and maxima of graphs using the first and second derivatives. In addition, using the mean value and Rolle's theorems, we also found values of c in the ranges of [a,b] where the derivative of c was indicative of the total derivative of the range between a and b. The student has a test coming up soon with an unknown date, so we will meet again tomorrow for reviews before the test."
"Tonight we worked on core concepts of calculus and moved on to finding relative and absolute maxima/minima. We practiced and applied these concepts to some physics at the end."
"We finished going over her practice test and we did some other problems to help her prepare for her test. She seems like she is very well prepared. I gave a list of rules that I felt she should memorize and a few types of problems that could practice before taking the test. I am confident she will do well."
"We covered examples on optimization and the steps one uses to find maximum and minimum values for application problems usually relating to distance, surface area, volume, angle, or rate. I gave her a worksheet to finish on her own as well as the website that has the process laid out for each problem. I also instructed her to finish her two practice skills tests prior to next session."
"Our primary focus today was working towards finishing his online homework assignments while also reviewing for the quiz on integration he has this week. On the whole, the student has a strong grasp on integration. His only issues were remembering "+C" at the end of indefinite integrals and confusing the integral of 1/x to be 1/ln|x|. Each time he made that mistake, we went back and tried to take the derivative to get the original equation, and he realized what his mistake was. I left him with the rest of the homework assignments."
