" My tutoring experience has ranged from teaching phonics to kindergarten students to teaching calculus to college students. I worked as an intern for a couple of years at an after school tutoring program for students who were behind grade level and I received the "Intern Award" two semesters in a row. I work well with all students because I am a patient and understanding tutor. I can relate to the frustrations of a struggling student and I love seeing that moment of understanding in a student's eyes."

"I love watching students’ progress as they learn to write effectively and sometimes even begin enjoying it! When I was a senior in college at UCSB I worked in the CLAS department tutoring fellow college students in the Writing One course as well as the ACE program, which was for English-as-Second-Language Students. One of my most memorable experiences tutoring occurred during that time. I had a student from Armenia, who was just beginning her studies at UCSB. She had only been learning English for a few years and her grasp was fairly basic." ...

" As my academic background suggests, I am interested in many different subjects (if I could have also studied history, physics and literature, I would have!). I have taught music lessons for over a decade to students of all ages and musical backgrounds. As a result, I have learned how to identify students' learning styles, and most importantly, how to make unpleasant topics interesting -- or at least less unpleasant. Moreover, I have experienced the frustration and the struggles many students face in different subjects. In college as a music major, general math requirements were the bane of my existence. I had to retake classes and ...

" Even in high school I would help my friends with their homework, so I guess you can say I've been tutoring even longer than 11 years. I always try to find ways to make the subject matter easy to relate to. I don't believe there is such a thing as a difficult subject, I just believe that each student has strengths and weaknesses, and that it is best to focus on the strengths and use them to overcome the weaknesses. For example, some students struggle with word problems in math, but they enjoy drawing pictures."

" I graduated with honors from UCSB with a BA in Psychology and a minor in US History. For the past 3 years, I've taught ESL (English as a Second Language) abroad in Japan and Chile. I love working with students and helping them grasp concepts that they have struggled with in school. I enjoy building up their confidence in the subject matter, and then watching them be able to use their knowledge to solve problems on their own.
