Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Taught the student several lessons involving areas to be covered on her quiz tomorrow. Spent an hour on prep ahead of this lesson developing the lessons and practice problems. Covered polynomial addition & subtraction; binomial multiplication; and GCF."
"For this session, we went through an algebra review in preparation for an exam. The test is primarily on systems of equations. Overall, he had a fairly strong grasp of everything even before our meeting. As always, he was a joy to work with because of his enthusiasm and interest in the material. As far as problem solving strategies are concerned, the main thing that I stressed dealt with the fact that one can always check any set of solutions by inserting the supposed answer back into the original equation. This fact virtually guarantees that you will get each question correct. For extra practice, I recommended looking through the review again in order to cement each sub concept."
"Completed this week's POW -- topics included determining which number between 20-50 evenly divides 377, permutations of seating arrangements in rows and circles, and probability (I can't remember the first question, but the student had completed it before I arrived). Then she studied for an upcoming science test by completing the review packet on cells, transport, and biological classification. She has a good command of most of the material (cells and their organelles, active and passive transport, and taxonomic hierarchy)."
"Today we covered solving systems of equations by substitution and elimination. The student had a positive attitude throughout the session. She had a strong understanding of the concept. Great session. She had a lot of math make up work and was able to complete it all, showing all of her work neatly."
"The student and I reviewed a practice for the test she will be taking next week. I gave her positive feedback and encouraged her that she will do fine. I left he with completing more practice tests."
"The student and I reviewed characterizing graphs of polynomials. I also had her take a quiz on graphing. She did well on the majority of the problems."
"For Student 1, we worked through his homework assignment covering integers, order of operations, absolute value, and number lines. He was able to complete the majority of problems on the worksheet. My session with Student 2 focused on a algebra review packet that focused on prime factorization and the greatest common factor. He completed his review."
"The student and I covered converting fractions to decimals, as well as mixed numbers to improper fractions. Again, she has a really great handle on these problems, so we got a little ahead of the class with multiplication, division, and reciprocals of fractions. She also went over her homework and corrected any errors, as well as doing her daily math word problems. Fractions are proving to be no problem for her, I look forward to finding out how she did on the assessment!"
"Topics covered: Standard form, slope-intercept form, point-slope form, graphing lines, rate of change and slopes, real world problems, arithmetic sequences. Reviewed for her upcoming test. Knows how to calculate slopes. Can easily convert an equation from one form to another. Reviewed negative numbers and how -5/2=5/-2. She is significantly improving."
"I brought extra worksheets and the student and I mostly focused on solving inequalities that involved absolute values. I left extra practice for the inequalities as well as solving equations of lines knowing coordinates of parallel or perpendicular lines."
"During the session together, the student and I worked hard on completing his assignment for multiple classes, including English and math. The math component of this assignment consists of creating a binary tree, and we completed his binary tree by the end of our session together. As always, it was a very efficient and productive session and I sincerely look forward to meeting with him again soon."
"Student and I picked up where we left off before President's Week with Exponents, reviewing and practicing how exponents interact when multiplied, divided, rooted and exponent'ed again. He has a solid grasp on the fundamentals and is definitely improving and growing more comfortable with Algebra in general."
