Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session, we covered fractions. The student had no prior knowledge of fractions so we covered the basics then worked on some word problems. He did very well today. We then requested his recent quiz, where the student passed with ease."
"The student and I went over her test from last Friday on prime and composite numbers. She is still rushing through problems and taking shortcuts to try to finish faster. We went over some practice for this week's unit on area, volume, and perimeter, and she seems to understand it. We found the area and perimeter of the floor and ceiling (in floor tiles and ceiling tiles) and various other objects in the room. We went through her homework together after some general practice, and she got most of the questions right on her own. She needs to work on some of the basics (multiplication and division in particular). I recommended a math game they could easily get and play at home. I will be bringing some multiplication practice on Thursday, as well as additional practice on the unit for the week in preparation for her Friday test."
"We went over more practice of word problems, which is logical involved, today. The student is very good! But no homework today."
"In today's session, the student and I practiced her addition and subtraction with 3 and 4 digit numbers. Using playing cards, each player pulled 3 cards. The cards she pulled counted as one number, and the cards I pulled counted as another number. We then add or subtracted the numbers. Example: she pulls an Ace (= 1), a 4 and a Jack (= 11). I pull a 9, Queen (=12) and a 3. Her number is then 1411, and my number is 9123. We then subtract 9123 from 1411, or we might add them. Then, I had her state whether the sum/remainder was an even or odd number."
"The student and I focused on fractions today. We first covered how to simplify fractions, find equivalent fractions, and convert from mixed numbers to improper fractions. He did a great job with understanding these operations. He then completed some word problems involving these fraction concepts from a prior released 5th grade math exam. We worked through them together, and he made great progress. I can really see his confidence in his math skills improving, which is wonderful. Keep up the good work!"
"Today, we started doing fractions. The student is motivated to learn the material and shows enthusiasm when he understands a concept. We went over the homework that was assigned, as well as some additional practice during the session. He is understanding the material very well."
