"Area of triangles, squares, and other polygons. Student did a very good job with all the areas, until the ones where they were irregular polygons, and you needed to break up the figure into smaller triangles, rectangles, etc. After I showed him to break up the problem, he started doing much better. For those area problems, he needs to break it up."
"Today we went over the student's worksheet for her benchmark test this week, covering all of the topics from the previous few chapters, and stressing triangle formula, tricks for substitution and the properties of shapes and angle measurement congruency."
"In this session, we reviewed for the student's test on proportions and relationships. We did problems on similarity and ratios. She is competent with the concepts and can reason through problems quickly."
"We discussed circles and point of tangency, common internal tangent, radius, chord, center, diameter, secant and common external tangent. He was familiar with the topic and, even when given more-complex questions, was able to answer correctly."
"The student has a quiz Friday so we reviewed for that. We went over graphing both circles and parabolas. We went over finding the center of the circle or the vertex of the parabola. We went over finding the focus and the directrix. We went over finding the equation of the circle of the parabola when given information about the center, the vertex, the radius, the diameter, a point on the curve, the focus, or the directrix."
"Today, the student and I reviewed tangent relationships in preparation for his test tomorrow, which is an activity on figuring out the height of a tree given an angle of elevation and the height of your eyes off the ground. To do this, we made a diagram, established the ratios and relationships that we know, and created for ourselves formulas to solve any given piece of information. I believe that breaking down the problem in this way helped him understand the application more thoroughly, and will better prepare him for his test. In addition, we discussed his study habits for his Biology test, and for Tuesday, we will be comparing his study notes with his test to see where he could have studied more effectively."
