Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Tonight we reviewed and drilled on irregular preterites, noting irregular present yo forms, reflexives, stem changes and related rules, and then present progressives and related rules with ir stem changes, etc."
"We covered past participles and an introduction to perfect tenses and we reviewed imperfect and preterite tense use. We also reviewed some of the student's work for AP US Government."
"The student and I read chapter 5 and 6 of her Spanish novel, which she needs to have read completely by next week. She is able to read well; her pronunciation is very good. We reviewed new words and some tenses. However, the book contains many tenses (perfect tenses, the future, the conditional, the subjunctive) that her coursework has either not reviewed yet or touched on very lightly. At the end of the session, I asked her to read the remainder of the book. In our next session, we'll review the remainder of the book."
"We did Spanish conversation practice. The student was to have a verbal test where she would be asked to describe a vacation she had, in Spanish, responding to specific prompts from the instructor. We did two practices where she described a vacation to me, and one where I described one of mine to her and she had to answer questions about it. We also briefly reviewed conjugations, a few common verbs, and reflexive verbs. She seemed engaged and enthusiastic with the Spanish. She expressed the belief that the session helped her feel a lot more confident about her ability to speak Spanish during the test."
"We discussed present tense verbs in Spanish, including perfect, and also past tense. We discussed regular versus irregular verbs, and I gave the student some example sentences to work with. The student was strong in retention."
"We reviewed the subjunctive mood and its relation to the other tenses. The student completed workbook exercises and focused on speaking in Spanish using the vocabulary and tenses from current and past chapters."
