Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered polypeptide chains and finding the pI of amino acids and polypeptide chains molecules. The student's attitude was positive but a little stressed because she has an exam tomorrow. I left her with more practice on drawing molecules and finding pI. I would say it went smoothly as far as content review."
"We covered chapter 2 of the textbook for the student's organic chem class. She is taking this as a prerequisite to get into a Physician's Assistant program. She is determined and a hard working student who picks concepts up quickly."
"Today the student and I discussed the function and components of blood, as well as the structure such as the heme group and its role in blood. We also discussed the differences between erythrocytes and leukocytes, and we discussed the various roles of the neutrophils, eosinophils, basophils, monocytes and leukocytes. We also discussed the differences in blood groups such as A, B, AB and O, and the Rh factor. Overall the session was successful and he understood the material easily."
"Today, the student and I completed most of his upcoming science project, focusing on Newton's Laws of Motion. After that, we jumped into his math homework, and he tackled many of the problems with ease. This was another busy but productive session."
"We covered how Lewis structure relates to shape, polarity, hybridization, and VSEPR, and I showed the student how we generate the table of shapes from each of these materials. She seemed to really grasp these concepts rather quickly, and she was identifying shapes with relative ease. I have given her some practice problems so that she can work with these in preparation for her test in a week and a half. We then covered a little bit of MO theory, and I showed her that it really is just as simple as atomic orbitals, only we are now filling the MO diagram with all of the valence electrons of the molecule. She did very well on the last quiz that she had, as I showed her how to draw a great Lewis structure, introduced the concept of formal charge, and showed her how to calculate it."
"We continued to review for the student's final by going over the activities for unit three and six. We also went over some problems from her homework on unit eight. Then, we went over general study strategies for the final exam. We will be able to talk about study strategies in depth next week because she will know the format of her final."
