Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"As always, it was great working with the student! She seems to be progressing with the "phonics fun" that we've been having! Thank you for the "clay" I can't wait to use it!
I hope that you and your family have a great and safe camping trip, and I'll see you on Thursday the 22nd!"

"The student is taking trig for a summer course, and wanted tutoring help for the class. We started off the session going over the unit circle, since it can be applied to a lot of the questions that the student had.
We then spent the rest of the time going over one of her homework/quiz assignments. The material focused primarily on different aspects of the trig functions using identities, figuring out graphs and quandrants, and solving.
Overall, the student did very well. It looks like she just needed help trying to organize all the new information in her head."

"The student was able to get through the Science section rather quickly today; after looking at the layout of the section and how it is in many ways a basic logic/critical thinking test, we looked at the scientist perspective subsection, which is most similar to the Reading section (which the student was somewhat concerned about). Informal prep had an estimated average score of 33, and the student actually had a perfect score on the passage she was most worried by. We went on to a quick review on the English section, followed by the post test. The student scored a 31, which she saw as a more than satisfactory score on that particular section. We plan to continue by doing either the Math or both Reading and Science post tests at our next session."
"Worked through practice problems on the math section of the SAT. Student is very smart and understands how to do the problems, but is rusty on some concepts. Overall, he will be fine on the math section."
"Today we started doing first grade math curriculum. I gave her a number line and we starting adding numbers that equaled up to 30 or less. She never saw this before so at first it was a little challenging, but after 510 minutes she was doing it independently. I am planning to use the first grade math curriculum and hopefully get through the entire thing before the end of the summer, maybe even further depending on how much time we have! She also did a lot of reading with my leveled books."
"The student and I completed outlines of his three essay questions for his final exam. Afterwards, I drilled him on the question bank of 150 potential final questions. We ended the session by going over some strategies for memorizing the more dense information."
"Today we reviewed the homework then focused on the student's timing and confidence while completing the writing section. Timing was no problem for her, and we worked on strategies for guessing and leaving questions blank, practicing grammar while we worked. These activities went very well. She should continue reviewing math topics and grammar."
"We went over more Haber types of chemical reactions where we tried to calculate change of enthalpy. I also explained orbitals and hybridization, and briefly talked about photons and quantum energy. "
"The student worked on finishing her rough draft by fleshing out her outline and choosing quotes from sources. Fleshed out the outline she'd use to start writing the final draft, and talked about ways to make the writing process go more smoothly."
"This session went well. The student picked up on some good math concepts as we worked on problems together, and she did GREAT with simplifying a lot of things on her own, something that often is difficult for her. We also talked about quite a bit of writing (sentence corrections, sentence replacements, etc.), and were able to deal with the problems that she answered incorrectly in her practice sections. She worked very hard today, and continued to ask questions until things clicked!"
"Today was our first session. We covered arrays, for loops, methods, including recursive methods, interfaces, and class inheritance. We worked through AP practice questions. We went over the questions that he did not answer correctly, which were mainly about methods and notation. I did not leave him with extra practice this time but told him to make a note of any questions that come up in the meantime between our sessions. No concerns to report."
"In our final two sessions, the student and I began the process of working on long division problems. We talked about the rectangle method as well as an alternative method for solving long division. We also continued to review our multiplication times tables. Each week, her skills with multiplication have shown improvement."
