Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we did physics that centered around angular velocity and torque. In particular, we calculated the effect of angular velocity on normal force (i.e. how fast does a bicyclist have to go over a circular hill to become airborne?)."
"The student and I discussed his goal scores and his reasons for taking the test. He is already quite strong on this test; his quantitative score on his practice test was an 800. We will focus on the verbal sections this week. He was given assignments to complete on his own to begin practicing these skills."
"We started going through some questions the student had about our last session and his research on the websites I provided him to study on his own. He is at an advanced level of Spanish, using the language on a daily basis to communicate with friends in Costa Rica and he has very sharp and detailed questions. After clearing out his doubts we worked on the past, starting with the preterite. It is a long topic but we go at a very fast pace. Tomorrow we will meet again."
"We continued our work on writing mechanics, and supplemented it with pronunciation and vocabulary practice. The student had recently written a paragraph for class on the differences between city life and country life, so we used this paragraph as a starting point to practice sentence construction and phonetics. We reviewed the strategies of wording sentences in familiar ways, using transition words to help sentences flow, and supporting your claims with evidence. We also went over the sentence constructions for "on the farm" (a la ferme) and containers/amounts of things (un peu de + noun, without an article). She is a very good student and seems dedicated to learning more French."
"First session with the student today; She is really prepared/organized, but just needs that extra to put her over the edge. We covered 3 reading comp sections, a couple of math sections, and a writing section. Reading is definitely the section where she's wanting help with. Next week we'll do more review over old tests, since she has definitely gone over a lot of material"
"The student and I completed his banana-fetching game and started modifying a preexisting pong program. He was able to quickly add a score counter using skills he had gained from writing the banana game. He is progressing at an excellent pace."
