Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student worked through his homework problems, including paired t-tests, independent t-tests, and the chi squared tests. We also reviewed creating null and alternative hypothesis. He received a B on his midterm."
"The student has a chapter 5 test tomorrow so we focused on simulations which is a big part of chapter 5. She completed all of the simulation exercises in section 5.3 and followed the 5 step procedure as described in the text book. We then covered everything else in chapter 5, including samples, studies, surveys experiments etc. Her class will start on Chapter 6 next week."
"The student did linear regression by hand (using a calculator), we found y = aX + b. He also found the confidence interval for b, did a two-sided hypothesis test for b, and discussed the meaning of positive and negative correlation."
"Another catch up day with the algebra 2 worksheets. The student completed some at home over the weekend, then finished the rest at our session."
"We covered the gradient, directional derivatives, and tangent planes. These subjects are very closely related, and I encouraged the student to visualize the connection between them. He seems to have a decent grasp on handling partial derivatives, but he does still need some work in recognizing the symbols used for vector operations (the magnitude being one that needs constant clarification). I would recommend he begin to make a formula sheet and challenge himself to make problems based on this sheet in addition to perhaps trying to explain what each equation is for in plain English."
"Today we worked on decimals and exponents. We discussed how to multiply and divide decimals and I had him do several practice problems on a whiteboard. We discussed how to do negative exponents as well. We then used educational videos to go over some topics for a test he will be taking for math club. He is a great student and catches on quickly! I did leave him with homework on decimals and exponents to complete throughout the week so he gets extra practice."
