Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Most of the time was spent simplifying trigonometric expressions using the identities. She did not seem to have much trouble, especially considering that she is allowed to use a note card of all the identities on the test. We spent the last half an hour on an introduction to electric force and conductivity in a qualitative sense. She has not officially started the material in class yet."
"We worked in preparation for the student's test when we met on Tuesday, and did practice problems from all of Chapter 7. On Friday, we worked on sections 8-1 through 8-4. These new concepts were very challenging but with a little support, he knew exactly what was going on."
"We reviewed the section on graphing cos/sin functions and their permutations (amplitude, period, vertical shift, and phase shift). We practiced interpreting graphs and extracted the above information from equations."
"The student and I went over her quiz she took a few weeks ago. We went over z-scores and how to find them and what they meant in regards to area under the curve. Finding proportions and probability without having definite numbers for standard deviation or mean was especially difficult. I plan to do some more research for her and provide other resources to practice this. She has a very positive attitude toward the subject and wants to learn. We discussed making sure we show all of the steps because partial credit will be awarded even if the answer is wrong."
"The student was concerned about the concepts he does not understand. We sat together and solved all the problems he got wrong. He understands now, and I found out that for some problems the formulas were given just 1 or 2 days before the test and he did not have time to memorize them. Overall the win from this session is that he understood his mistakes, and he is ready to move forward."
"The student completed his assignment over solving systems of inequalities and linear programming. He had good grasp of the material."
