Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student is learning about the basics of genetics and inheritance. While she has the Punnett square down, she had some difficulty understanding larger concepts including X-linked inheritance and Hardy Weinberg equations when dealing with autosomal recessive conditions. We went over these problems in detail and she seemed to understand better. Practice with more questions should be helpful for next time."
"We covered mutations - frameshift and substitutions (nonsense, missense, silent). We also covered biotechnology - how synthetic insulin is made via bacterial plasmids and the use of restriction enzymes, what are sticky ends, and when dna ligase comes in."
"We went over Genetics today for her test retake tomorrow. We covered DNA, RNA, transcription, replication, translation, Punnett squares, pedigrees, etc.. While I think the student understands the concepts, I don't think she is interested in it, which makes it hard for her to focus during our sessions. For Biology, it is mainly about learning the concepts through memorization (at first), then applying them."
