Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has a chemistry test next week and a final in two weeks. The material that she wanted to go over today was Lewis dot structures, geometrical structures and hybridization. We spent the session going over homework problems. She initially had some problems with Lewis structures, mainly trying to predict where the elements would go, but by the end of the session, she got a great handle on it. She said that she felt a lot better about the material."
"We went over empirical and molecular formulas. He seemed to really understand these concepts when we went over them. We also went over stoichiometry. He struggled with this but probably just needs more practice. "
"The student and I spent the session going over the writing section of the ACT along with a couple of science passages. He did very well on the writing section (he scored a 30) and I expect him to do very well on the real thing."
"The student and I worked on the essay portion of the ISEE. We talked about proper format, what goes into a well-rounded introduction, what goes into a good persuasive essay, and what concrete details should be used to support the writer's stance."
"We continued work on narrative writing. We focused on "show not tell" using details. We edited her narrative. We then talked about descriptive writing. We also reviewed verb tenses (past, present, future). We read "Dancing in the Wings" to show how writers use descriptive writing, dialogue, and paragraphs."
