Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student showed me her most recent test. She consistently made errors in using the inequality symbols. After going through each of the questions she got wrong and making corrections, I made sure to spend time going over which inequality symbol is less than/greater than as well as giving her example phrases and asking her to choose which inequality is represented by the phrase. She is still very stressed when taking the tests and I think that is hurting her performance."
"During the past two sessions, we went over the MacLaurin Series and Taylor Series expansion. The student did well applying the formulas to find the correct series expansions. She was also able to use the summation notation appropriately to represent the series. On Thursday, we also went over her exam. Based on her performance, she needs more practice to achieve fluency on the course material."
"Today, the student was working on Pythagorean theorem. He had some nice notes taken from class. He worked very hard. He not only has to solve the problems but also explain. In the past he has been reluctant to do that. Now, he is more willing. I spoke to his mother after the session. His grade is still low, but it has been improving. Mom seems pleased."
"On Wednesday, the student and I covered division of two decimals consisting of up to 6 digits. She showed relative mastery and confidence with this topic. We spent the second half of our time reviewing concepts related to multiplication and fractional arithmetic. While she has certainly showed clear improvement in her mathematical skills, we continue to work towards mastery in the areas of multiplication and general mathematical problem solving skills. As always, she is a bright student who is eager to learn and a pleasure to work with."
"I helped the student figure out what he was struggling with in his AP Cal BC homework. We agree that he needs help with pacing with the class. For the session, I helped him go over his homework and consolidate ideas that he was struggling with."
"In this session we covered dividing polynomials using long division and synthetic division, and evaluating polynomial functions at a point using polynomial division. The student's grades have noticeably improved since we started."
