"The student and I started with a worksheet where we had to determine whether various points were solutions to any of four listed systems of inequalities. At first she did understand what to do with the point when only the inequalities were given, not the graph. But once she realized she could just plug in the points, she worked through them quickly. There was a little uncertainty about how to graph the inequalities once she rearranged it, but she figured it out and completed the worksheet. We also began solving systems of equations by graphing, which was a much easier concept for her since we didn't have to figure out any shading. We also practiced solving systems of equations using the graphing calculator, which was pretty easy. This was a really good session and a good level of ease since she wasn't feeling too well."
"The student did her homework assignment and I checked all her calculations. I gave her tips on how to simplify and factor expressions, and on how to use of exponential and logarithm rules that I wrote the day before in a list."
"The student had a test Friday morning so the focus of our session was to prepare for that. I made about 18 questions as a practice test and she also had a study guide from her teacher. I was extremely impressed that she breezed through my questions in about a half hour. She made small mistakes here and there - mostly when she tried to simplify an expression too quickly in her head. Aside from those small algebra mistakes, her grasp on the material has improved and her confidence as well. We went through her teacher's questions and she performed well on this. I quizzed her on the derivatives that she needed to memorize (12 trig functions, 4 log/exponent functions) and she only stumbled on two. I am confident that she will do very well on her Friday test."
"We covered matrix determinant. We mostly covered a plan for the tutoring sessions and I also did an evaluation to test the student's weaknesses and her basic math skill. She has difficulties understanding her teacher and needs a detailed explanation of concepts. She is interested in learning the concepts and is willing to put as much time as needed to understand the concepts."
"The student had questions from her last exam. Topics included are reading and interpreting scatter plots. The next section after the exam is about solving system of equations. I explained that there are 3 different methods of solving system of equations which are by graphing, substitution, and elimination. I explained the examples in her textbook, then she did the practice problems for each method."
"The student worked on her calculus homework. Her class just started derivatives. I think she understands this unit better than the previous one because it is more concrete and algebraic. She got a 78% (B-) on her last test, but I think if we keep working together we should see improvement."
