Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over organic chemistry, IUPAC nomenclature, making bonds, general organic chemistry reactions. He was not struggling with the material after we starting going over it."
"We covered Free Response Questions 1-7 for his preparation for his final exam this week. He was able to answer all of the problems with the ability to explain the concepts behind them."
"We worked on a review packet detailing atom orbital filling. The student seems to have a good understanding of how orbitals are filled and the exceptions to filling trends."
"The student was preparing for her Honors Chem final. We reviewed topics that were giving her particular trouble. We started with a review of the different types of bonds (element type composition: ionic (NM-M), covalent (NM-NM), metallic (M-M), and network covalent (ex: diamond, graphite). Next we reviewed the intermolecular forces. The other major concept we reviewed was acids & bases. This included memorizing the strong acids & bases, reviewing the relationships between acid/base reactions and the products (conjugate acid & conjugate base). We discussed the math to calculate pH (pKa/pKb) from acid/base concentration and the math to calculate pH or concentration from a titration experiment. Overall, she seemed more confident in her chemistry knowledge at the end of our session."
"We had a productive review day today and studied material from previous units including the four organ systems, to begin our preparations for the final. In particular, the student labeled and understood the pathways of food through the digestive system, blood in the circulatory system, gas exchange in the respiratory, and filtrate through the nephron tubules in the excretory system. He efficiently completed quiz questions I made. We also went through his class notes for various units, to review the concepts together, which was helpful for retention and understanding. His next unit for biology is Evolution, which we will begin reviewing tomorrow."
"We went over the student's performance in the class and what she felt she needed to work on to prepare for her retake in January. We began by putting Organic Chem 1 reagents and reactions on flashcards and drilling those. We also began going over some of her lecture material and made strategies for upcoming sessions."
