Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went over parametric equations. We specifically went over word problems and how these equations elate to them. Most of these problems involved projectile motion and movement."
"We worked on problems for the student's final and discussed them. Most of the time was spent on functions, some word problems and understanding factoring."
"Today we worked on section 8.1, 7.8 and 7.6. Section 8.1 was the inverse of sin/cos functions. The student was able to get that the inverse is looking the angle that matched the value, and that f^-1(f(x)) canceled out both the functions leaving just x. Section 7.8 was applying phase shift to cos/sin function and how the shift on the graph. Section 7.6 was finding the amplitude and period of a function, and how they affect the graph. Afterwards, we did a brief review on the unit circle and convert radiants to degrees, which he was able to do with great ease. I left him to work on memorizing the unit circle and a few trig identities. Also, I recommended doing a few phase shift problems before the test as they are the most time consuming."
"The student and I completed a review of pacing exercises that incorporated problem-solving through word problems. We also conducted practice with manipulating variables and focus on pacing goals. We also completed key writing strategies to efficiently convey arguments and implement organizational thought."
"We covered adding/subtracting/multiplying radicals, complex fractions, radical and rational exponents, adding and subtracting radical expressions, a brief tutorial on complex numbers, and imaginary numbers/square roots. Great job on the problem sets; continue to use the math website to practice various areas daily. Please be sure to focus on simplifying complex fractions. I will provide a problem set on imaginary numbers/complex numbers. I will also continue to seek out a revised session plan and approach on topics and include multi-complex problems."
"Yesterday, the student and I went over her math homework, which was a review of many things she has covered, including algebra, geometry, multi-step word problems, and multiplication and division problems. I sent her home with algebra worksheets to complete, and I also sent her home with a word problem worksheet that we will review at our next session."
