Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed the Reading and the Math sections of the ACT during the session. The student has shown improvement in both areas and was positive and motivated. She asked excellent questions that demonstrated her desire to learn the material and perform well on the exam. I recommended that she analyze news articles to help with her comprehension and reading speed and provided sources for her. No concerns to note."
"We covered trigonometry this session and had to begin from the basics since she has not had any trigonometry in school yet. We began with basics and worked through problems. She is making progress with sine, cosine, and tangent problems."
"We spent the entire session on the Science section. I had him take a full-length test at the beginning of the session, which he did really well on and had no issue finishing in less than 35 minutes - the amount of time he will have to complete the section on the actual test. For the remainder of the session, we went over each question he missed on a practice test from Sunday, which involved comparing and contrasting two scientists' beliefs about a particular scientific issue. This kind of question is the part of the Science section he struggles with the most, and I told him he should retake that practice test shortly before he takes the actual ACT test."
"The student and I talked about his needs and concerns for the test. It looks like Math and Science are going to be the sections that could be most improved. We went over general test taking strategies and also got through a good portion of one of the Math sections in the ACT Prep Guide. Geometry seems to be the area of most trouble. He will finish that section for next time."
"We spend time covering the pupil's macroeconomics homework. Then we worked through the first half of an ACT English section, simultaneously reviewing strategies and testing skills. We finished the session by working through a few ACT math problems he missed on a practice test."
"The student continued doing a practice diagnostic math section test and got through a passage and a half of reading. We are understanding more of what issues she has regarding test taking and what problems to go over in each section."
"Started the session with an overview on the ACT and the elements of each session since she hadn't taken it before. Provided a lot of tips and tricks that we then proceeded to apply as we practiced the Reading and English sections. Went very well."
"We talked about strategies for the Reading test and did one using the new strategies step-by-step. Also did two science passages and two English passages. For extra practice, make sure to read (something enjoyable) every day."
"Did geometry and math problems with the student , from the math and science ACT book. Did science problems from same book; then ended session with reading section from the other ACT book. Will meet next week to continue ACT study."
"I researched some speed reading and skimming activities for the student to try. We have been doing a lot of book work so I wanted to switch it up. We finished with some Science and spent time discussing some of the strategies for the harder sections."
"Today's session went very well. We covered essay strategies, grading one full essay, as well as English and Reading. The student is evincing considerable improvement in each area. For homework, I assigned one half of a practice test."
"Today, the student and I practiced English and Science. He took two practice science tests and an English practice exam. We practiced identifying and eliminating redundancy. For next Thursday, he will complete a reading diagnostic and a science passage."
