"The student wanted review on her math homework. She was struggling with factoring quadratics. I walked her through the method using the box and the diamond. I also helped her review exponents, sequences, and absolute values."
"We focused on solving two and three step equations involving a variable. We also graphed multiple equations and reviewed finding the slope of a line from only two points. The student picked up the graphing in a snap. He also took very little reminding before he had the slope formula down. He had a little trouble with equations involving fractions until we looked at fractions in a visual context using boxes as wholes and sections of those boxes as the fractions. We discussed the three ways of solving for intersections of equations through elimination, substitution, and graphing. We finished the session by working on radicals and how they relate to exponents as fractions."
"The student was working on computing simple and compound interest. Once she understood that she needed to convert the percentages to decimals and apply the order of operations, she did well with this skill set."
"The first thing we did in today's session was to answer any homework questions. The student lacks confidence in her ability to do trigonometric function problems, but when going through them step by step, she was able to complete them. We then watched the video for Lesson 48--Radical Expressions and completed the even numbered problems. We also watched the video for Lesson 49--Linear Intercepts/ Transversals. We spent extra time going over this concept. At the next session we will begin with practice problem 2."
"The student started off the session by saying he scored a 100 on his previous exam on the convergence of infinite series. Then, we went over how to find the power series representation of functions. We went over the definitions of Taylor and Maclaurin series, and how to find the Taylor and Maclaurin series for various functions."
"The student and I covered the concept of similarity between shapes (quadrilaterals and triangles). We illustrated similarity using different scale factors, involving story problems as well. Her understanding of the content improved during our session and she's doing so well!"
