Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session, we worked through several practice essay topics. I had the student write sample paragraphs for these essays and gave him tips on improving the structure and flow of his writing, as well as on picking good examples for body paragraphs."
"The student and I used this session to discuss and go over the timed full-length practice test he took for homework. He did very well on this test and seems to be doing a good job of avoiding and accounting for test fatigue. Over the next few weeks, we will continue to work on consistency and avoiding simple errors. After we were finished going over the practice test, the student and I talked a little bit about higher-level strategies for active reading and how he can best utilize the time he spends on passage-based reading. We will practice this more next week. For homework, he will take another timed full-length practice exam. He will make sure to A) take the time look back at the problems he does not answer correctly and B) email me his essay prior to our next session."
"In this initial session, we began by reviewing the assessment math test that I'd given the student. He performed very well on it, and we identified a few areas of focus for the future. We then proceeded to review the top 150 vocab words, on which he also did well. I am building him a vocab list of the ones he struggled with or missed. Turning to reading comprehension, we discussed some strategies, and then engaged with a few questions, including a very difficult passage. The reading comprehension questions are probably going to be an area of greater focus, as the tendentiousness of some of the questions frustrate the student. I am reviewing some of the student's sample essays for next time, and I will be assigning him further diagnostic tests. He has committed to two hours a week of homework for the SAT."
