Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed most of the units that he had learned thus far. I also assigned him review based on radical expressions."
"The student had a lot of work to do today. He was able to get the bulk of his Math project done, but he still needs to work on his History paper and Finance worksheets."
"We reviewed the student's quiz for area and perimeter of triangles, trapezoids, parallelograms and circles."
"During our session, the student and I completed additional worksheets that I provided to give her extra practice various algebraic concepts that she learned last year in her pre-algebra class. We will meet again next week."
"The student covered basic subtraction skills. Her assignment included unknowns and mastering the subtraction/borrowing system."
"Today we resumed the practice problem set on polynomial equations where we were finding factors of a polynomial expression of the area of a frame and canvas to try to find the width of the frame. She did well finding the factors of the expression, but we spent a bit of time completing the problem. She had a tough time visualizing what the problem was asking, but through using some real-life objects as examples/ correlates (door and frame, iPad), we were able to arrive at the correct conclusion. The remaining practice problems were straightforward. The student did very well with ordering fractions/ square roots/ exponent expressions in increasing order of value, as well as simplifying square root functions. The student admitted that often times, she has difficulty with problems when the steps have not been reviewed or refreshed, but that she did not have a problem with the math itself. I told her I appreciated the feedback, and we would try to use that to our advantage for later tutoring. The remainder of the session was spent starting the next section of the curriculum, which involved working with linear equations and inequalities. The example problems involved word problems with one or more variables where you had to either create an expression or evaluate the expression's meaning. The student did very well with this and seemed to be adept at the material. I was encouraged that we could make good progress with this section in our tutoring session the following day."
