Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked in this session on spelling words (and his weekly words for his Friday spelling quiz) by playing a spelling game with dice where we challenged each other by spelling words that corresponded with the colored spaces we landed on the game board. We specifically worked on contractions, double letters, and words with silent letters (which he seems to have some trouble with). He was quite enthusiastic about the game - in fact, he was the most enthusiastic I've seen him in tutoring so far, and I was happy to get him excited about spelling and learning words. We had a lot of fun with this particular game."
"The student and I went over several stories that I brought with me to the lesson. The stories had follow-up questions that were multiple choice, as well as short answer. I put extra attention on the writing portion this lesson. We also went over literary elements, such as foreshadowing and onomatopoeia. She and I read a poem together and did some reading comprehension for that as well. Lastly, we looked at fractions and simplifying them, and I introduced her to decimals. Overall, she did well on reading comprehension and understood the new concepts I introduced to her: she was able to find examples of foreshadowing directly in the story we read, and she was interested in the decimal conversions we worked on. She also gave me the trivia questions she created for the Harry Potter books, so we will be going over those together next week for further engagement."
"The student was able to complete seven reading passages and answer their corresponding questions during today's session. She correctly identified the main idea of each and was able to use POE in order to arrive at an answer."
