Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"First we discussed the recent quiz that the student took, on which he said that he was confident that he performed well on. I was happy to hear this. He has another exam coming up and we are planning on reviewing for that as we continue working together."
"We covered trigonometric functions, graphs of them, conversion between radians and degrees, and laws of cosines and sines. I left the student with additional online resources."
"Today, the student and I had another good session. We practiced with power, quotient, and chain rule and introduced the derivative of trig functions. He's progressing really well and is a smart guy."
"With Student F, we did 12 basic 2-digit addition problems, and 12 basic 2-digit subtraction problems. He did these problems very quickly with only a minor hiccup here and there when he lost track of his regrouping. He enjoys doing problems in his head. With our remaining time I covered the concept of multiplication which he picked up very quickly and was able to complete a 5x5 multiplication table and enjoyed discovering all of the patterns in the table. Student S and I covered fractions. He did 12 addition problems, 12 subtraction problems and 12 mixed fraction division problems. He also enjoys doing his work in his head. He struggles when he gets a problem wrong; he puts in a lot of effort and will take it personally when he makes a small mistake. We will work on this."
"We worked on factoring cubics using a formula and substituting into the formula. The student struggled with identifying how to use the formula. We also talked about graphing. In particular, we talked about where to get horizontal and vertical lines (no slope vs. undefined)."
"I continued to teach the student how to solve absolute value equations, including how to determine how many, if at all, solutions there are. I gave him practice problems and he completed these problems very well. The only thing he needs to remember is that absolute value equations can have 2 solutions, and he tends to forget to find the second solution. However, his equation solving skills have significantly improved."
