Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During our most recent session, the student and I began by reviewing her spelling word exercises. She practiced writing each word once, and then put the list into alphabetical order. For the following exercise, we classified whether each spelling word was a noun, verb, or adjective, and practiced identifying how to classify words. We then worked on reviewing her reading homework, which included reading the first two pages of an informational text on the Titanic, and finding certain words based on categories that her teacher had assigned such as "consonant blends," "glue sounds," "compound words," and more."
"The student and I had an awesome session today. We read 18 more pages of No Summit Out of Sight. We typically take turns reading pages, but he read four pages in a row with wonderful fluency and didn't even hesitate to see if I wanted to read! We then read a short 780 lexile non-fiction text about volcanoes. He read the text in 1:51 the first time, 1:41 the second time, and then 1:13 the third time, showing improved fluency, confidence, and expression. He chose to challenge himself to read the text a third time to improve. He scored an 8.5/10 on the comprehension questions without my support."
"This session was very successful like the last one. The student was very cooperative and engaged in the book, and his reading performance was very good. We finished the book called "Wagon Wheels." The story was good and filled with the normal stuff that he enjoys -- terrible weather and natural disasters, the threat of attack by an enemy force, dangerous wild animals, some near-death experiences, all befalling some good upright protagonists. The writing assignment was also a success. Overall, excellent session."
