Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this session, the student did an estimating difference worksheet, a reading comprehension worksheet, and a noun and pronoun worksheet. He read a table of contents and had to find information about different chapters. For example, one question asked "where would one look to find information about making pizza?" He circled chapter 2. He correctly answered other questions about the table of contents as well. Next, he did the estimating difference worksheet. Here, he had to round the numbers first to the nearest hundreds then subtract. For example, 263-100. He rounded 263 to 300, and 100 stayed the same. He subtracted them, which came out to be 200. After doing those problems, he did the noun and pronoun worksheet. Here, he read a menu and had to identify the nouns and write them on the side and circle the pronouns with a red crayon. He got all of the worksheets correct. He had no problems at all and completely understood the material. He did an excellent job."
"Due to the fact that the student is learning his multiplication, I created a three page worksheet. During today's session, he completed the first page successfully."
"Today we did some math games (number recognition and base ten trading games). We then moved to reading (letter sound recognition games, reading) and concluded with a bit of Spanish (counting and read aloud)."
"The student is very smart and learns quickly. Today, we worked on adding and subtracting decimals, algebraic expressions, order of operations, and exponents. I assessed the student since it was our first session. We are going to work on algebraic concepts like one and two variables and combining like terms next week. The student had a very positive learning attitude and is eager to learn new concepts. I integrated one of his interests - basketball - in my assessment today. I assessed his mental math abilities. He had to answer a given math problem correctly before putting the ball in the hoop. We also worked with a dry erase board - guided and independent practice. The student indicated at the end that he likes me and I like him. We hit it off!!"
"We worked on order of operation, ratios and proportions. The student picks up concepts very quickly."
"Concepts covered were basic math facts and writing expressions. The student needed help most with written word expressions. The student had a positive attitude toward learning the material. I included mental math strategies. I left the student with basic math fact practice. I believe this student will progress quickly! The lesson was a win!"
