Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered solving for an unknown variable using distribution, subtraction, and division. The student had a good attitude, as usual; he is always very polite with me. We created a flow chart to outline the step by step process of the equations and practiced moving operations like division and simplification out to scrap space."
"The student learned how to reduce fractions to lowest terms, adding fractions with different denominators, finding the common denominator. By the end of the session, she was able to do this. She did have some difficulty initially with the multiplication tables, however, she did seem to gain some confidence as the session progressed. She learned the material quickly."
"Today we started off by reviewing reading. The student was doing extremely well with this so we moved on to review math. We reviewed all of the math we have worked on in our tutoring sessions as well as coordinate geometry and plane geometry."
"We reviewed the concept of quadratic functions to include the threes forms of the equation that represent the function, and translating these into graphing the function on the coordinate plane. The student understood the method to graph the functions, as well as the meaning of the different transformations of the parent function. We also reviewed using the quadratic formula. She has mastered solving equations using the formula. We spend a considerable amount of time converting standard form of the quadratic equation into the vertex form using completing the square. I recommended to her that she focus her practice on mastering this task."
"The student has a test next week. We reviewed the following concepts for his test: evaluate algebraic expressions using order of operations, squares and cubes of numbers, write and evaluate algebraic expressions for real world problems, simplify expressions using commutative, associative, distributive properties, analyze and solve problems with algebraic expressions."
"We basically just went over what the student has already learned from last semester in Algebra 2. We also went over her current homework assignment due on Friday. This involved solving equations by simplifying squares and fractions and dealing with multiple variables. She needs to pay closer attention to her work to avoid simple errors and needs to be fully rested before tackling harder problems. She was open to my suggestions and very positive. I gave her a few tips in solving problems certain ways as well as general tips for studying in the right environment to do well in school and for college applications. She has no grades for this semester yet but did very well last semester."
