Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student was still covering concepts surrounding equations of lines in school, so we continued doing those problems. Revisiting more problems in the next sessions should cement all the concepts we have covered in tutoring in the past few weeks."
"The student was working on vertical motion problems for homework today. We reviewed the process, and then she was able to complete her homework, which included quite complex versions of a vertical motion problem! Then, we reviewed exponent rules involved in a few of her homework problems. She is having a test soon, and she says she feels more confident now."
"We went over the student's current math homework. It involved factoring quadratic functions. Some of them were higher concept problems, and some dealt with basic physics. We also discussed her science laboratory, on topographic maps."
"We had a good session today. We did a review on polynomials, as the student will be having a quiz on this. We worked on adding and subtracting polynomials. We then went on to multiplying a polynomial by a monomial. We also discussed how to find a degree of a polynomial and the different ways to find and write a polynomial."
"Today, the student and I went over solving systems of equations. She had a very good grasp on it because of the rigorous teaching on it she had in the 8th grade. The first worksheet focused on forming systems of equations based on a word problem and then going on to solve that problem. She finished that worksheet with about 30 minutes remaining. The second worksheet was more of the same, except it focused only on solving the system. She did well today, and it's obvious she is retaining more of the material than she did before. She even told me she earned a 90 on a recent quiz she took!"
"Today, the student and I reviewed a few topics that will be on his quiz tomorrow. We did several practice problems in solving absolute value inequalities, absolute value equations, and functional notation. Aside from a few simple errors, he performed well in these areas. I noted an improvement in his ability to solve problems involving absolute value and functional notation. However, he showed a little difficulty in understanding the more abstract problems, which involved variables, rather than numbers. I reviewed the strategy to answer these types of questions and he has a better understanding. On his quiz tomorrow, I suggested that he continue to write numbers clearly and carefully work through the math, making sure he is accurately copying down equations. Additionally, he has shown improvement in his ability to perform addition and multiplication. Overall, it was a great session."
