Tutoring review by Kevin in Canastota, NY
I met with the student in order to help him prepare for an exam he was to have on Thursday. We continued our discussion on a number of topics that were likely to appear on his upcoming exam. The main topic we discussed was vector addition. We discussed the two ways that a vector can be described and how one adds vectors in each form. I was able to find a cache of practice problems that we began working. The practice problems I found online focused on vector addition. After considering some of the online problems, we turned our attention to some of the problems at the end of the section about vector addition. I thought that he seemed more comfortable with the concept of adding two vectors by the end of our session. Towards the end of our session, I had him go over the concepts from his last quiz that I was sure would reappear on his chapter exam. He was still comfortable with those topics which included the law of sines, the law of cosines, Heron's formula, and the general formula for the area of a triangle.

Tutoring review by Travis in Canastota, NY
This was my first session with this student. She has a final on Tuesday over chapters 8-11. We discussed how mathematics is a language and I encouraged her to explain her answers and worked on her confidence in mathematics. She kept asking me if steps she took were right and I encouraged her to instead tell me it was right and why and then I'd confirm her logic or help her to make adjustments. We also worked on problems together. I'd do a problem I selected and she would do the same problem and then we'd compare how we did. I think this was particularly helpful for her. We worked out a plan on studying for the weekend and I confirmed with her mother that she wants two more 1.5 hour sessions before the exam; one on Saturday and one on Monday. I look forward to working with Gabby and strengthening her algebra I skills. I also told her to do problems from each chapter each day and to star ones that she particularly struggles with so we can do those problems in our next sessions. We also discussed the importance of doing problems at the end of each chapter as well as the worked out problems and how it helps to try to do the worked out problems without looking at the book first.

Tutoring review by Anjali in Canastota, NY
Yesterday, we practiced on congruence postulates - Side-Side-Side (SSS), Angle-Side-Angle (ASA), Side-Angle-Side (SAS), and Angle-Angle-Side (AAS). The student was confused at first, as she was facing difficulty to distinguish each of the postulates and when each one is applied in the problem. I gave her various problems on SSS, AAS, SAS, and ASA from online worksheets. At the end of the session, she was able to distinguish between each of the congruence postulates. It was a bit challenging at first, but she improved her understanding as we progressed further. There will be more practice on the same concept during next session.
