Engineering Is My Dream by Austin - June 2013 Scholarship Essay

Welcome to my room!  My room/workshop consists of two 3D printers, Lego creations, creative shelving and storage units and many other fun knick-knacks and gadgets that help me learn how the world works.  Engineering is extremely important to me and an integral part of my everyday life. Attending college is important to me because it will allow me to following my engineering career aspirations, help me gain valuable knowledge of engineering and allow me to be surrounded by like-minded people.
I have known since a very young age that I was interested in mechanical things and how they work.  Throughout my life, I have played with Lego’s and Rokenbok.  These toys helped develop my passion for engineering.  One of my favorite activities is taking everyday household items apart and in order to learn how they work.  I am interested in attending college because I want to pursue my lifelong passion of engineering.  Throughout elementary and high school, I learned basic skills and how to be a well-rounded individual.  I am eager to venture into a new chapter of my life and explore new realms of knowledge in college.
Attending college will allow for a greater concentration of me.  What this means is that my studies will revolve around subjects that I am interested in.  At my high school, there aren’t as many class options for people with engineering interests.  I am looking forward to classes that incorporate many aspects of engineering.
People are important.  I am excited to attend college because I am interested in being around more like-minded people.  Since, I attended a small grade school and high school, there were few people with my same interests. I have attended camps for Boy Scouts and was selected to participate in a highly competitive Materials Engineering camp at the University of Minnesota.  I enjoyed the opportunity to interact with people with similar interests and the opportunity to meet professors and students who could fill me with knowledge of engineering.
Attending college is an exciting transition to the rest of my life.  I am eager to follow my lifelong dream of becoming a Mechanical Engineer, to increase my knowledge in the field of engineering, and to surround myself with people who have similar interests. Thank you for your consideration.  I would be honored to receive the Varsity Tutors Scholarship.
