Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we began by quickly reviewing his Spanish homework, and then went through the chapter on circles in his geometry book."
"The student and I worked on evaluating ratios and proportions in similar 2D and 3D figures. He seemed to understand the material well. Good job!"
"The student and I spent our time completing a geometry review. We talked about mostly the area of shapes, all types, perimeters, and volumes (primarily conics). We'll review one more time before his test Friday, but all his homework is done to turn in."
"For this first session, I just got to know the student a little bit. We talked about his background in geometry, as well as math in general. He is going to online school, so I had him walk me through that structure and how it worked. We started the math work by looking at a specific proof that he was having trouble with. I talked through some general proof strategies with him, describing what they are and how to solve them, then we looked at the specifics of the one that he was needed help with. It seemed like once he got going, he did pretty well. It was just trying to take that initial step that he really needed help with. We then went through a self assessment exercise where we were able to pinpoint his challenges and make a plan to address them."
"We covered completing the square (including when the leading coefficient a does not equal 1) and equations of circles. The student was engaged and did well with the difficult concept of completing the square."
"The student needed a little practice on 30-60-90 triangles. I spent a little time on that, and she did fine. She also needed to understand some problems that used ratios from similar triangles. We set those up together, and she solved a homework problem. She did have a question with one problem. I figured which triangles in the construction were similar, and used this and the Pythagorean theorem to come up with a quadratic, which she already knew how to solve from last semester. She seems confident about 30-60-90 triangles. She did seem to build confidence in today's session, and may gain confidence from practice."
