Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Diagramming sentences (subject recognition and direct vs. indirect objects), then math videos focusing on solving equations with variables on both sides."
"In today's session, we continued to work on the main idea via passage reading and writing. Strategies introduced in the previous session were reviewed and an independent practice opportunity was provided via reading and writing activities about dolphins. In the area of math, the concept of fractions, a topic of current study for the student at school, was reviewed through math apps and tasks that provided practice in identifying equivalent fractions. Math fluency in the area of multiplication facts was also addressed in this session."
"We reviewed the student's math and English homework. He was able to complete all of his work in the 2 hours I was there. He is a good kid and very bright."
"Tonight we reviewed the student's open book religion test. She had already completed it but I had her show me where she found the answers in the book and only had to make two corrections. We also reviewed for her math test and a couple of her spelling words that she had trouble with."
"During tutoring, the student finished an overdue science assignment and completed her civics assignment on the branches of government. She has been doing well with her focus. In addition, I've found that her reading comprehension greatly improves when she reads along to something she is also listening to."
"The student and I read through the next ten or so pages of True Grit. We took special time to understand the sarcasm and underlying meanings of the characters' remarks to each other in a quarrel. It will be important for us to find a way to increase his understanding of subtext in this book. He also answered two questions I wrote in the format of his quiz questions. I really hammered in that his answers and thoughts much be shorter and more succinct to satisfy his teacher's requirements. We then crafted excellent, short responses. I also asked him questions about the passage read to make sure he remembered the content."
