Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over the practice final packet. We got through the chapter on chemical bonding and chemical properties and started the section on chemical reactions. The final review packet should be done after the next session."
"I found out from the student that he had a great test last week! I was very excited to hear that, I know he has had a lot of trouble in the past, but I had a feeling that this would be a better exam for him. He and I worked on Chemistry this session since he just had a geometry exam. With finals coming up, we will have a lot of review coming up."
"Today we worked on polyatomic ions, the mole, Avogadro's number, atomic mass meaning, and word problems. Since the student wanted to focus on concepts more than answers we focused in on correctly understanding and solidly build up these ideas. She had a bit of trouble understanding the concept of the mole, from its meaning to its practical use, and how to pull information from word problems. That is what we spent most of our time on and I believe that she fully comprehended the ideas presented to her when I left."
"The student and I worked on Organic Chemistry (introduction, including the beginning of naming compounds), and advanced geometry / algebra (rule of sines / cosines). He needs practice to memorize the formulas in geometry and then to apply them, so that he will have them at the ready at the test. The Chemistry he will review tomorrow in class, and they will start naming. It sounds difficult now to him, but I thing the structure of it might be helpful."
"I continued to work with the student on preparing for his chemistry final. We went over the few remaining concepts on his study guide he wasn't familiar with, such as the rate of reactions and certain math problems involving calculating the concentration of hydrogen and oxides. The student did will understanding these concepts after we worked on them and was focused throughout our session."
"The student received the textbook that she will be using next semester for honors biology. We started reviewing using the textbook. Much of the material we had already seen but we started from the beginning with the characteristics of life and then chapter 2 which was about atoms and other components of living things. She will review the material we covered to memorize the vocabulary and get a foundation for the chapters to come."
