Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has a retake test tomorrow so we just reviewed for that. We went over graphing a parabola in either standard or vertex form, finding the vertex, axis of symmetry, range, domain, x-intercept, y-intercept, end behavior, increasing interval, decreasing interval, and the transformation from the classic y=x^2. We went over average rate of change and how to calculate it for a given interval. We went over the significance of the discriminant."
"The student informed me that from the test corrections she did last week her grade improved from a 69 to an 84 which was great to hear. She and I studied for a test she was having the following day on sections 2.1-2.5 mainly covering proofs and theorems. I felt she grasped the concept of the material which was due to seeing more practice problems in class, homework problems and extra review. I feel that if she takes her time and thoroughly works through each problem she should do fine."
"The student and I met after her spring break. She'd started a new chapter, still dealing with circles. We worked a homework problem together involving working with and manipulating the standard form equation for a circle. She really has a good grasp on this and didn't actually need much assistance. We spend some time reviewing some circle formulas and I made up a couple problems for her to practice. We spend time reviewing in detail what a radian is and how its used/written etc."
"Once the student captures a concept, he is able to apply it to various problems very quickly! The student just has to take some additional time to fully comprehend and absorb certain math concepts, and one-on-one tutoring is helping him a great deal. We continued to review chapter 9 and also went over his current homework."
"The student and I met from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm Monday March 24. We reviewed geometry material for his test on Tuesday 3/25. His mother sent me a review sheet for the upcoming quiz and we reviewed those topics (volume, surface area, side lengths of 3D objects). The student missed a good amount of school in the past couple months and is making up this material. He initially did not know how to complete the problems but after a couple practice problems he took to it very easily. I believe that if he is taught the relevant material that he will have no problem doing well in both his chemistry and geometry classes. Overall, I think the session went very well!"
"We spent time going through his geometry review packet. We reviewed many of the questions he did, and he continued with the rest. We ended our session by going through biology questions."
