Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we went over his last exam. I suggested that he may want to type up a word document with all the equations in the book to memorize or to put the equations on flashcards. We worked some of the problems that he found most challenging and I tried to give a simpler distillation of the questions. It seemed to work ok."
"The student has a test on experiment design on Tuesday, so we simply reviewed his homework assignments from the chapter. He already had a pretty strong understanding of the material, but now he's even more prepared. We'll start on probability next week."
"We reviewed problems for upcoming quiz. We highlighted areas of devising a slope from given scenario information and being able to summarize what the slope displays about the data. In addition, we completed work in finding the residual equations and determined the accuracy of the predicted data. We completed at least 15 additional practice problems and discussed each solution in depth."
"The student and I worked on using the empirical rule to find z-scores, percentages, and the mean. We also talked about box plots and the 5 number summary. We discussed finding outliers and the meaning of standard deviation. She was very positive toward statistics. We talked about making sure we read the question carefully, highlighting, underlining, doing whatever it takes to notice and remember key words and what they mean. We also talked about making sure we are careful not to drop negatives. She generally understands what is going on, and I believe she will do well with the subject if she keeps working hard."
"We went over extreme value theorem, Rolle's theorem, mean value theorem, and differentials. After reviewing the chain rule briefly, we also used strategies that incorporated finding relative maximum and minimums from other sections. The student got an A+ on his quiz this past week."
"We worked primarily on order of operations, so this included reviewing multiplication tables and long division. Some fractions and decimals were mixed into the problems, which I hadn't seen in her assignments before, and she did great with them. She is definitely getting quicker with her multiplication tables, and she is having no problems with order of operations."
