Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we worked on derivatives of log functions and different types of problems on this section. In the end, we started the discussion of application of derivatives in physics."
"The student and I reviewed his homework in preparation for his upcoming exam. Topics covered included an introduction to integration through limits, and the relation of physics and calculus."
"During this session we covered continuity, the definition of the derivative, and shortcuts to finding derivatives using the power rule. The student also showed me his most recent quiz, on which he scored an excellent 12/12. I was very pleased to see this score. While discussing continuity and the power rule, he seemed to know his stuff generally well. The biggest struggle came during the section on the definition of the derivative, and finding the derivative the "long" way. This is an area where most students struggle in Calculus, and an area that I do not worry as much about, because after the students get done with this section, they generally use shortcuts to find derivatives anyway. As long as a student understands that derivative means the slope at a certain point, that is what I am most worried about. The student still had some homework in the sections on the "long" way to find a derivative as well as using the power rule, and he assured me he would work on this tonight as he has a quiz tomorrow (pretty sure he has a quiz every Tuesday and Thursday). I am confident that he will score decently on the next quiz, as long as he reviews finding the derivative the "long" way."
"During this session we went over logarithmic derivatives via implicit differentiation. He didn't have much trouble with the topic. We went over his homework problems and did a few random question in the text book. He is on point! Since he was very comfortable with the material, I taught him some new stuff. We went over tangent lines, normal lines, position, velocity, acceleration, and sketching the graph of F(x) given the F'(x) graph. He picked up real quick. We did a few problems in textbook. Overall this session went well."
"Today the student and I reviewed linear functions, as well as what constitutes a function in general. We went over the questions he got wrong on his test and covered the concepts on that test that were confusing to him. We also covered some factoring rules, which seemed to have helped him immensely."
"This was a good session with the student. We spent time on a problem set involving correlation and scatterplots. Nice work!"
