"I've been tutoring in some way or another for almost ten years! I started working with junior high kids in a music/academic summer camp while I was in high school. While I was studying writing at Illinois Wesleyan University, I volunteered as a tutor in elementary schools, junior highs, high schools, and preschools. I've done a lot of work with bilingual (native Spanish-speaking)students.
For the past 3 years, I've worked in the educational publishing industry -- in other words, I write text books."

"I'm a recent graduate of Northwestern University, and I have been tutoring both as a job and as a volunteer for many years. I especially enjoy high-schoolers of every level, but I have tutored students from age 6 to 35! To me, tutoring is about really getting to know each student, their strengths, and those areas of weakness that are coming between them and their highest potential. My specialties are math, essay writing and Spanish. I love algebra because it's so neat and there's always a right answer, and I enjoy helping students realize that it's more straightforward than it seems." ...

"I began teaching in 1999, both in the classroom and through individual tutoring sessions, after earning an M.S. in Math Education from Purdue University. My experience ranges from a traditional curriculum at an elite college preparatory school to student-based "discovery learning" in a Chicago public high school to working with adults at one of the City Colleges of Chicago. Because I have worked with these varied approaches to teaching and with these different groups of students, I have the tools to discover YOUR best way to understand the material." ...

"I get excited about tutoring. In the last two years I've tutored everyone from middle school students to adults, on topics ranging from the intuitions of basic arithmetic to how to connect with and describe an author's voice. Behind every topic, a new world is waiting for every student if we can just make things click. I tutor with gestures and jokes, messy diagrams and clean metaphors."

"Hi! My name is Caroline, and I'm a Chicago transplant (but a Northeasterner at heart). I'm also a 2010 graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where I earned a Masters degree in creative writing. My favorite tutoring subjects include composition and reading comprehension, and I enjoy working with students of all ages!."

"It's my pleasure to introduce myself as a Varsity Tutor, specializing in the sciences and mathematics. It's been a long journey that brought me to this point; one that's given me invaluable experiences that I bring to my teaching and tutoring style. I grew up on the coast of New Jersey, and attended a public high school that is now considered failing. While there, I worked as hard as I could to exceed standards and developed an intrinsic motivation to learn anything and everything that I could. By the time I completed that experience, I was prepared and yearning to move on to greater things. I found such things at the University of Chicago, ...
