Tutoring review by Carro in Redmond, OR
Today's session with the student started with a skills review. During our skills review, she gains additional practice with previously taught skills which assists in knowledge and skill maintenance. This session's skills review component included practice with multiplication and addition with multi-digit numbers involving regrouping, identifying factors of a given product, rounding, and place value. The instructional focus of today's session was place value, including writing a given number in word form, standard form, and place value notation up to the millions place. We will continue to practice this skill in our next session on Monday, as well as, continue fluency practice involving addition and multiplication facts.

Tutoring review by Julie in Redmond, OR
Today the student wanted to start with reading from Geronimo Stilton. As she read she was able to make corrections and reread words that didn't make sense. We also stopped throughout the chapter to discuss comprehension strategies. After that, she worked on math word problems. She used a whiteboard to help her solve the problems. Some of the problems were more challenging for her especially the ones that consisted of several parts. I helped her to think about how to break the problems into more manageable pieces. After that she worked in an addition workbook for quick practice on mental math. I want her to start relying on other strategies to solve simple addition problems other than counting on her fingers. I am currently showing her other methods to use when solving mental math problems.

Tutoring review by Jack in Redmond, OR
The student has a test on Monday over chapter 2. We reviewed inductive vs deductive reasoning. We did some practice problems involving "special" angles (alternate interior, vertical, alternate exterior, collinear) and did some "angle chases." We also went over finding the equation for the nth term of a sequence by using reasoning to find the pattern and turn it into an equation. He is understanding concepts very quickly and doesn't have any trouble interpreting questions.
