Katherine ...Masters of Education in School Counseling. I love to help others in general, but I particularly enjoy helping others when it comes to academics, as I have always been an avid student. That's why I think tutoring will be great field practice for me, as I'll be able to dip my feet in the water of being on the giving end of academic assistance instead of just the receiving end. Thank you!... I think the best way to go about teaching something to someone who may be struggling is to guide them along with as little assistance as possible. Obviously, it is necessary to teach them what they don't know, but it is also important to help them have that "Ah-ha!" moment, which I feel usually comes when you've had a chance to turn the information over in your head a few times.
Brandie ...are struggling below grade level. I strongly believe that many students simply need a different perspective when trying to understand certain concepts. Whether it may be fractions or literature, I am trained in advancing my students to reach that next level within their learning process. My goal as an educator, is to guide students in determining their strengths and weaknesses and to coach them on self-discovery, so they may find ways to improve!... My teaching philosophy is: to foster critical thinking skills; to facilitate the acquisition of lifelong learning skills; and to help students develop evidence-based problem-solving strategies.

Kendra I'm 18 years old and I am a sophomore at Fordham University. I promise I won't disappoint!... I believe that it's important to establish a comfortable but professional relationship with a student so they ask questions more freely and are more willing to learn.... I would ask the student which areas of school they need help in, and develop a study plan that accommodates the student's preferred/most effective ways of studying.... I can help a student become an independent learner by showing them how to think critically when solving problems.
