Tutoring review by Eric in Cropseyville, NY
Today's session with the student went well. We focused on getting him prepared for his chapter four re-take. We completed a practice exam as well as review problems from the book. The student has been doing great over the break and has finished almost everything that he has set out to do, which included learning the material better. I left him with extra problems to complete before his re-take. The student did very well.

We talked about the state test and went over some concepts that the student remembered she struggled with (word problems and exponent rules). We did her exponent rules homework, adding, multiplying, and subtracting exponents). She did very well on this. We practiced sample item word problems from release standardized tests that included concepts like surface area and volume, percents, ratios, and proportions, and writing equations.

Tutoring review by Michael in Cropseyville, NY
The student and I went through homework involving two new theorems of famous mathematicians, simplifying the area calculation of any randomly shaped triangle, and fully inscribed (cyclic) quadrilateral via formulas. To achieve the use of these methods in the problems, however, it was necessary to be able to identify how to order the set-up, and make cuts in figures, then solve for common sides of the resulting shapes, in order to be able to apply such formulas. The student is extremely focused at this point, recognizing multiple solutions to many problems, applying methods well and will probably score very high on his next test.

During my session with the student, we worked on the first draft of her Julius Caesar essay and review for her Julius Caesar exam. As a strategy, I suggested that the student go with her first immediate response to the multiple choice questions on the test and avoid changing her answers when she finds herself in a space of self-doubt or anxiety, as these emotional states usually prevent us from thinking clearly. I do not have any concerns from this session. She knows the Julius Caesar material very well and has the knowledge she needs in order to ace her test and essay.

Tutoring review by Daniel in Cropseyville, NY
Today the student worked on an analytic writing assessment - having a template in mind before taking the GMAT, using transition words and varying sentence structure. Critical reasoning is challenging when the concepts blur together. We practiced outlining an essay, and identifying the kind of critical reasoning needed. Overall, he is seeing improvement.
