Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over some basic introductory statistics concepts during this session. This material is exactly what he will see on the AP test. We covered techniques for presenting data including: dot plots, stem plots, histograms and frequency tables. We also discussed data clustering, outliers, shape of distributions, and spread. We finished up with the measures of central tendency: mean, median, and mode. This will be a good opportunity for him to get ahead and stay ahead. I think with this approach he'll do well in his class and on his AP test. He is very smart and he understands most of the concepts that I present immediately. I'll bring practice problems and possibly homework as well on Wednesday."
"The student and I worked on her homework which dealt with box and whisker plots, modified box and whisker plots, the definition of an outlier, and five number summaries of data. The student seems to grasp the material well, but has trouble focusing."
"We used SPSS output to write a report summary. He wrote the report, and we scheduled a session for the same time next week."
"The student and I worked on his Polygon project. We finished the complete project that is due Monday. He and I worked on multiplying and dividing whole numbers. We used the Lattice method for multiplication and did some long division."
"We reviewed equations of lines. Her teacher does not teach her in class so I am essentially starting at square one with her and I need to catch her up in order to pass her test. Each day I am leaving her with extra practice with hopes that she will grasp the concepts better and move onto where she needs to be."
"The student had homework over conversions. She had to convert quarts to pints, inches to feet, etc. I explained it with several different methods. I think she started to get it more toward the end, but she still needs a lot more practice with this."
