Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student mentioned that he felt the least confident in reading and writing, so we began with the writing section of the SAT. We reviewed an essay that the student wrote during his SAT class, and discussed how to make it stronger by having a clear thesis and three supporting examples. In his prior essay, he was unsure how to write his thesis, and he used only one example. We brainstormed ideas of good examples to use in SAT questions. The student then read a new prompt and came up with a thesis and three examples to support it. After reviewing the essay portion of the exam, we went through a practice writing multiple choice section together. The student was good at identifying errors in the sentences. We discussed several common grammatical concepts that are tested on the exam including how to join dependent and independent clauses, singular/plural errors, verbal tense, and dangling modifiers. Before tomorrow, the student will take practice test 2 in his review book, and we will go through it during our next session."
"This was the student's final lesson on SAT grammar. We finished up practice sections and reviewed homework. Student is consistently scoring well."
"During the first hour we focused on math. In this session we focused on application of slope and point-slope equations and geometry (pyramids, cones, prisms)."
