Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We revised signs and converting mixed numbers to improper fractions. She has an exam coming up so we focused on the topics that would be on the exam."
"We worked on subtraction and addition. I recommended that the student begin multiplying and dividing so that he remains challenged."
"For our last tutoring session, the student and I reviewed two graded assignments that were sent home. Both assessments were A's. Overall, he did an excellent job of following through on problems and pacing himself well. Next, he and I brainstormed what steps were necessary to solving multiple step problems. He wrote the steps down in his own words, and then we ordered which steps come first. (For example: 1)Read the whole problem, 2)Figure out what the problem is asking, etc.). Next, we created a flip foldable that he is keeping for his own reference with each step and an actual problem worked through at that particular step. After we finished the foldable, he completed three additional multiple step problems. Once we finished reviewing multiple step problems, he and I worked on one of his goals: to "get better at volume." The 5th Grade assessment exam requires students to know how to find the volume of a cube and of a rectangular prism. Therefore, he and I did a scavenger hunt in the kitchen to find a cube and a rectangular prism. We measured the necessary sides, and used the exam mathematics chart to find the volume. Finally, he and I talked about his goals, going into sixth grade. I am confident that he will continue to do well in his mathematics courses as he continues to put effort and concentration into his work."
"We covered geological processes, adding integers, and subtracting integers. The student was knowledgeable about the geological processes, such as the formation of sedimentary rocks. She practiced adding and subtracting integers. She just needed to review the rules for adding and subtracting integers. She did well as she executed integer expressions. She was very excited towards the content. It was a productive session."
"The student and I worked on 3D figures today. We had to find the faces, edges, and vertices. After some explanation she really understood it. We also worked on some long division problems and she did excellent on those as well. Her math skills are really improving, and I think geometry is one of her strongest subjects!"
"The student continued practice with adding and subtracting fractions. He needs to continue working on simplifying fractions and converting improper fractions to mixed numbers. He did well at identifying the operation in the work problems tonight."
